About Our Company

A love letter from us,

Penny & Murphy began with something personal: two beloved companions whose names came to represent much more than the inspiration behind ours. They reminded us of what makes a place truly feel like home, the comfort of familiar spaces, the beauty found in everyday moments, and the character that develops when a home is genuinely lived in.

That sentiment became the foundation of our approach to design.

At Penny & Murphy, we believe a beautiful interior should never feel untouchable. It should invite you in. It should feel collected rather than constructed, refined without being overly precious, and thoughtfully designed around the people who call it home. We create spaces with warmth, depth, and personality. Places meant for quiet mornings, crowded dinner tables, dogs on the sofa, impromptu gatherings, and all of the beautifully imperfect moments in between.

Our work is rooted in the belief that great design is about more than selecting beautiful things. It is about understanding how a space should feel and how it needs to function. From architectural details and material selections to furniture, lighting, art, and the objects that give a room its soul, every decision is considered as part of a larger story.

We are drawn to interiors that feel as though they have evolved over time, spaces where old and new coexist, craftsmanship matters, and character is never sacrificed for perfection. Rather than designing around a single trend or formula, we look for the details that make each home and each client distinct.

Because ultimately, we aren't interested in creating spaces that simply photograph beautifully.

We want to create spaces people want to live in, gather in, and remember.

Thoughtful. Welcoming. Comfortable. Full of character.

That is the spirit of Penny & Murphy, and it all started with two dogs.

Three Perspectives. One Point of View.

Penny & Murphy is led by three partners who bring different perspectives, strengths, and instincts to every project. Our backgrounds and approaches may differ, but we share the same belief: the most compelling spaces are the ones that feel personal.

Together, we balance creativity with practicality, refinement with comfort, and big-picture vision with an appreciation for the smallest details. We challenge one another, build on each other's ideas, and approach every project collaboratively because we believe the best design rarely comes from a single point of view.

Joshua Calvin
Principal & Creative Director

Joshua leads the creative vision of Penny & Murphy, shaping the design language and point of view behind the firm.

With an instinct for composition, architectural detail, materiality, and atmosphere, Joshua approaches interiors as complete experiences rather than collections of individual pieces. His work begins with how a room should feel and develops through thoughtful space planning, architectural detailing, finishes, furniture, lighting, art, and the layers that ultimately give a home its identity.

Drawn to interiors that feel collected, storied, and slightly unexpected, Joshua believes a home should reveal something about the people who live there. His approach favors character over perfection and timelessness over trends, creating spaces that feel considered without ever feeling overly designed.

Within the firm, Joshua oversees creative direction from the earliest concept through the final styling ensuring every Penny & Murphy project feels distinctive while remaining unmistakably ours.

Sebastian Salas
Principal & Director of Interiors

Sebastian brings a thoughtful, intuitive approach to the interiors at Penny & Murphy, balancing beauty with the realities of how a home is lived in every day.

As Director of Interiors, Sebastian helps shape each project from concept through completion, working across space planning, furniture, textiles, finishes, lighting, and the layers that give a room its warmth and personality. His perspective brings another creative voice to the studio—one grounded in comfort, proportion, and the belief that a beautifully designed space should still feel approachable and effortless.

Sebastian has an eye for the details that make a room feel complete. Whether refining a furniture arrangement, finding the piece that brings an unexpected layer of character, or considering how one room transitions into the next, he approaches design with both the individual moment and the larger home in mind.

Working closely alongside Joshua and Luke, Sebastian plays an integral role in developing the interiors that define Penny & Murphy. The collaborative nature of the studio means ideas are shared, challenged, and refined together, allowing each project to benefit from multiple perspectives while maintaining a cohesive vision.

For Sebastian, the goal is never simply to create a beautiful room. It is to create a home that feels comfortable, considered, personal—and ultimately, like it belongs to the people living there.

Luke Kaspar
Principal & Director of Design + Fabrication

Luke brings a hands-on perspective to Penny & Murphy, connecting the worlds of design, craftsmanship, imagery, and storytelling.

With an appreciation for how things are made, Luke contributes to the physical details that make our interiors feel individual—from custom pieces and creative problem-solving to the hands-on elements that cannot simply be selected from a catalog.

That same eye carries into the way Penny & Murphy is presented beyond our interiors. Through photography, creative content, and brand storytelling, Luke helps document not only the finished spaces, but the process, personalities, discoveries, and ideas behind them.

His role reflects something important to us: design doesn't end when the room is finished. The craftsmanship, stories, people, and moments behind it are part of what makes the work worth sharing.

A cozy bedroom with a four-poster bed, beige bedding, and pillows. There are two nightstands with lamps, a window with arched top, and a large potted plant. The room has earthy tones and is decorated with artwork and items on a dresser.

Different By Design.

The three of us don't always choose the same chair.

We don't always love the same fabric, agree on the same trend, or walk into an antique shop and reach for the same thing and we wouldn't want to.

Those differences are part of what makes Penny & Murphy work.

Each project benefits from three sets of eyes, three perspectives, and three people willing to ask whether something could be better. Sometimes that means refining an idea. Sometimes it means defending one. And occasionally, it means admitting someone else found the better chair.

What brings us together is a shared appreciation for thoughtful design, beautiful craftsmanship, old things with stories, new ideas worth exploring, and homes that don't take themselves too seriously.

Because while we take our work seriously, we believe the process should still be fun.

More Than a Finished Room.

Penny & Murphy was created around the idea that design should be experienced, not simply observed.

That's why our story extends beyond our portfolio. We share the process—the antique-store finds, open-house tours, design debates, renovation decisions, things we love, things we absolutely wouldn't use, and the occasional idea that sounded much better before the three of us discussed it.

It's an honest look at how we see design and, more importantly, how we live with it.

Because a beautiful home isn't created in a single installation day. It's collected slowly through experiences, objects, people, places, and memories.

Your home should tell your story.
We're here to help you tell it beautifully!
